After we'd all agreed on a return visit to the Norman Knight
at Whichford, they managed to mess up our (Lynn's actually) organising,
so they came off the Christmas card list and we headed to The Manor House
camp site, Cheyney Manor, Barford st Michael, Oxfordshire (East of Chipping
Norton, South of Banbury). It's a proper campsite, albeit smallish, so
it's got (gasp) facilities, although they're limited and with things in
the corners which nervous people wouldn't want to know about. The Manor
itself is in the domesday book and seems to be the hub of the village,
run by some very friendly people and providing a general shop and post
office as well as the campsite. It's also partially surrounded by a moat
and a carp lake, both of which are well stocked and popular with fishermen
(fisherpeople? Nope doesn't work either. Lets go for 'anglers'). There's
a good pub in the village, The George, which was very friendly and served
good beer: Greene king IPA, Loddon Hoppit, and Ale Fresco if my memory
serves me well enough.
We achieved the staggering sum of 4 quotes, the best in my
opinion was definitely "You can't do a long fart backwards"
(Alex Mac).

Dave and Anna start the interesting
process of trying to set up their new tent, without the benefit of
drinking lots of beer beforehand. |
 |
Ah, so you want me to put these
pole things in as well. Dave discovers the new tent has a lot more
poles than the old one had. |
| Dave P. explains
exactly how to go about launching the new kite. |
 |
You want me to
move it where? |
 |
 |
Breakfast time, and there's
less hangovers around than there should have been. |
 |
Good to see Alex on a tour
again, now we've just got to persuade Julia to come as well. |
| Dave and Anna do breakfast. |
 |
Not sure what Alex is doing
to that cup of hot water, at least there's no pot noodles involved. |
 |
 |
Bethan invariably has more
energy than is good for the rest of us. |
 |
All the comforts of home. |
| Early morning kite flying.
Too many power lines around for the big kites but the small ones kept
us amused until the pubs opened. |
 |
It's a nice campsite, although
the amount of water was worrying given the floods which had happened
recently. |
 |
 |
Alex makes up for lost time
by getting into lots of pictures. |
 |
I don't know if it's my Tee
shirt or all of those map books, suddenly confusion reigned supreme... |
| It's only a tent, it can't
be that difficult. On the other hand, Pete and John have never set
up Andy Mac's old tent so maybe it is that difficult. |
 |
That's alot of stuff to fit
into the tent. Mostly it went into the west wing, leaving plenty of
sleeping space in the east wing. |
 |
 |
There's just too many guy lines
on these modern tents. |
 |
'ello there. Of course it'll
all fit in. |
| What can you say really. |
 |
I like to see a man who knows
how to care for his plants. Why did he have a plant in the first place,
that's another story. |
 |
 |
Sunday lunch was a return visit
to the Bishop Blaizes Inn at Burdrop. |
 |
Good weather and a great beer
garden, perfect for lunch. |
| The sun kept shining and we
kept right on sitting there. |
 |
What a peaceful life, beats
working for a living. |
